Tanzhalle Wiesenburg

Tanzhalle Wiesenburg is a place for artistic research, creation, interdisciplinary collaboration with a focus on stage productions. Alternative to institutional structures, this special cultural place is functioning through a common sense of self-organisation between the members of the team / hosted artists. We aim for enabling continuous, fluid work-processes, for supporting practical and theoretical exchange. The artistic and social aspects of these exchanges expand into public consciousness. The Tanzhalle is an important part of the historically significant former homeless shelter Die Wiesenburg.

Our main focuses / priorities are:
- research and working process in the field of performing arts for Berlin as well as international artists
- artistic residencies
- co-operations, workshops, open/educational/mediation/ training formats
- special formats developed for and within Tanzhalle: Gangplank (Bruno Pocheron) and Open Practice Sessions (Isabelle Schad)
- presentation formats and Showings

Location and Use:
For the development of an empty ruin on the site of Die Wiesenburg in Berlin-Wedding, we succeeded in acquiring funding from the program Soziale Stadt Berlin in 2010. It allowed us – Wiesen55 e.V. / a group of people coming from different working fields such as dance, visual arts, light design, architecture, cultural management, dance pedagogy) – to create a working space, which allows us continuation in practice, creation and production. From the beginning of the use phase in 2012 it enables the artists involved their necessity to intertwine life and work, training, practice, research, choreography and much more. It approximates their idea of continuation versus project-orientated work, their idea of continuous work process and of work as a pathway. The site offers possibilities to withdraw in the middle of Berlin in all senses, enabling to concentrate on one’s own creative process.

Since 2012/13 we are offering rehearsal asyl in Tanzhalle Wiesenburg for artist colleagues.
Since 2015 we are offering one week mini residencies, in which one week is given for work, presentation a.o.
Cooperations with other networks / institutions such as Ausland Berlin, Theater o.N. / FRATZ International, Performing Arts Festival and the Wiesenburg-Festival.
The use of our area within Die Wiesenburg aims for a synthesis of artistic production, presentation, public sharing and community work.
